Events

I have experience promoting events through various forms of media, from email newsletters to social media to designing flyers and web content. I also have covered a number of events for websites, a blog and The Maneater, MU’s student newspaper. Along with this experience, I have volunteered at local festivals, charity events and helped set up for a donor announcement while working at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Promoting Events

I have promoted events through posting on social media, designing flyers, creating weekly emails, adding events to the Mizzou calendar, creating Facebook events and distributing invitations at a festival.

The Missouri Review Editor’s Prize

The Editor’s Prize is the annual celebration where The Missouri Review invites its three prize-winning authors to a party to read excerpts from their literary pieces. I created the graphic below to promote the event as well as the Editor’s Prize issue of the literary magazine. I used the cover art to create an invitation-style graphic to cross-post on the magazine’s social media platforms. I also volunteered to operate The Missouri Review booth at the first annual Unbound Book Festival at Stephen’s College. There I helped distribute back issues of the magazine and encouraged festival-goers to attend the event.

Research Center Field Day Flyers

Using Adobe Creative Suite and photos of past events on the CAFNR Flickr website, I used an existing layout to design the 2016 Field Day flyers. Each year, the College’s research centers host about 16 different Field Day events, educating the farming community on the latest issues in Missouri agriculture.

CAFNR Info

CAFNR Info is a weekly email that goes out to the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources community. The College has a submission website where student leaders, faculty or staff can submit events to be posted in the weekly College email and added to the Mizzou calendar. I would take the content submitted and lay it out in the weekly email format. I also added events to the Mizzou calendar and linked them to the email content.

Event Coverage

I have covered events through writing print and digital articles, taking photos and creating graphics for social media and websites.

The CAFNR Faculty and Staff Barbecue

During this event, I photographed staff, graduate students, the CAFNR deans and faculty while they interacted at the barbecue.

Breaking Loose

CAFNR hosted a graduate student pool tournament at Billiards on Broadway. I photographed students playing pool, interviewed participants, composed a story about the event and posted the content on CAFNR News website.

Columbia unites to honor Mike Brown

I obtained a news pitch via The Maneater’s email wire service, researched, attended the event, observed what took place, interviewed attendees and the event’s organizers and composed a story. After this I sent my story to be edited by the copy writing staff and published on The Maneater’s website and in it’s print newspaper.

Volunteering

I have volunteered at a number of events in the Columbia, Missouri, community. Volunteering for events has taught me a variety of skills and allowed me to get to know people who have similar interests. The events that I have volunteered for are:
